🔴 Black Mountain first opened in 1935

🔴 The mountain announced plans to not open this season

🔴 Indy Pass will help find a buyer

Black Mountain will open for the 2023-24 ski season after another group stepped in to help with its sale.

The oldest ski area in New Hampshire announced on October 11 it would not operate because of energy costs, unpredictable weather, and labor issues. The Fischera family, who have owned the 88-year-old ski area since 1995, said it will have some help to open as scheduled and develop a plan for a sale.

"We understand how important Black Mountain is to the community, and that skiing and riding should not be something for a privileged few. Together, we will get Black Mountain open for another season and work towards finding a buyer that will keep it open indefinitely," the resort said in its statement.

An opening date will be announced soon for the Jackson resort. Previously purchased 2023-24 Black Mountain season passes will be honored and available again at Blackmt.com.

Helping Overcome Challenges

Entabeni Systems, the parent company of Indy Pass, will help find a buyer and provide the resources to help the resort in Jackson overcome its operating challenge.

“John Fichera was one of the first owners to believe in the Indy Pass, and we are privileged to help Black Mountain operate this season,” Indy Pass founder Doug Fish said in a statement. “We encourage all Indy Passholders to visit this gem of a ski area this season."

Entabeni said it will bring in Andy Shepard, a ski industry veteran who has headed turnarounds at Saddleback, Big Rock, Quoggy Joe, and Black Mountain of Maine.

In a statement, Ski NH said it was pleased at the news.

"We look forward to learning more about their plans for this winter and the future as that information is shared," the trade organization said.
