Jaw-Dropping Zipline Course Is Just One Reason You’ll Want to Visit This NH Adventure Park
It Was My First Time on a Zipline
You Have To Make Reservations
They Have Trained Staff
When it came time for us to go, we went into a room with trained Gunstock staff who told us how to put on our gear. They talked really fast and I may or may not have been the oldest person in the room, but they came around to help me out every step of the way. Just putting on the gear made me feel brave.
When you put on your harness for zip lining they also give you a backpack. That backpack weighs approximately 18 pounds. You will be carrying that on your back as you go from one section of the zip line to the next.
You Have To Climb Up To The Platforms
There are 5 ziplines at Gunstock. The first two are practice and not too far off the ground. After those two, you have to climb a spiral staircase with 42 stairs. (Yes, I counted....) You'll be greeted by friendly, knowledgeable and very reassuring staff! They told me that I would be very safe and to just relax.
You Do Have To Have Some Upper Body Strength
Unlike my assumption, you DO have to have some upper body strength. (I kinda thought gravity would do all the work.... ummm.... no.) A strong core is also helpful. You will be holding on to a lever that you have to pull down on in order for the zipline to go. You also have to ease up on the lever in order to stop, so keep doing those sit-ups.
You Gotta Wear The Right Shoes
You can’t wear sandals if you’re going on many of the adventures at Gunstock including the zip line. Also crocs are not allowed so make sure you wear either hiking shoes or sneakers or other footwear that’s appropriate. No open toed shoes are allowed.
You Might Need a Drink After It's All Done
Lucky for me, there was a cafe at Gunstock where I could truly marvel at what I had just done. At full throttle, that zipline goes 70 MPH. I needed a glass of wine. Luckily, Stacie and Jen showed me where the booze was. (Well... not Jen... she's pregnant. I know... I can barely tell too.)
You Have To Try It For Yourself
You have got to go to Gunstock for yourself. It is one of the best times I've had here in New Hampshire in a long time. Naomi and I are definitely going back. Next time, we're trying the rope course!
