From the Cold Case Files in New Hampshire

The case of Gabby Petito has the nation captivated.  With the discovery of a body that matches her description, it got me thinking about all the other families that will not have such closure.

My prayers are with Gabby’s family.  It really puts that whole social media van life in perspective.

It also left me with a big hole in my heart for all the families that continue to deal with their loved one’s unsolved crimes.

Laura Kempton of Portsmouth, New Hampshire

I dug into the New Hampshire cold case files, which I encourage anyone in New Hampshire to do on occasion.  The New Hampshire cold case website is located on doj.nh.gov.

You never know if you are the one person that many have a piece to a puzzle from long ago.

I came across the story of Laura Kempton, and it was so tragic.  According to the Department of Justice website, she was a young woman living in Portsmouth attending Portsmouth Beauty School and working two jobs: one at Marco Polo, Inc. and one at Karen’s Ice Cream Parlor.

She was so young it immediately made me think of Gabby Petito.

Laura’s Murder

Laura was found dead of massive head trauma in her apartment on Chapel Street in Portsmouth, according to doj.nh.gov.  She was only 23 years old when she died.

She was found on September 28, 1981, in her apartment after a night out with friends, the site reports.

In a related case, another beauty school student was found dead.  Tammy Little was only 19 and a student at the same school as Laura Kempton., according to the website.  She also died from blunt force trauma.

Police believe the killings were done by the same person, but all these years, no arrests have been made.

If you have any information on either of these cases, please contact the authorities. Those families deserve justice.
