The Lockdown at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, High School is Unusual
Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is known for many things, mostly historical, but crime is not one of those prominent in this charming city.
So imagine the shock when students, staff, and parents received this message this morning.
A live bullet was found on a bus.
While it was shocking, parents were respectful of the process, anxiously waiting for more details to unfold.
A live bullet was found on the bus, and not inside the school, but was still a major concern. Everyone involved is required to keep the students safe until the matter is investigated.
Students were held in their classrooms, which wasn't all bad, as they played games and chatted through the episode.
Portsmouth police conducted a thorough sweep of lockers and interviewed the students who ride Bus 13. They were eventually satisfied the school was safe to lift the lockdown.
About 43 minutes later, this message was sent out by the superintendent of schools.
Welcome to 2024. This type of protocol is in place to keep our students safe, and the system worked perfectly.
While there still are questions to be answered, parents, students, teachers, and the Portsmouth community should applaud the work of the police and the school administration.
The bus company was doing their job too, by doing a sweep of the bus after it returned to its lot after the morning run. That's when they found the live bullet.
All students are reported to be safe as school gets on with the day.
