Make Way on Mother’s Day for the Cutest Tradition Ever as Boston’s Duckling Day is Back After Two Years

The last time Duckling Day Boston had 1,000 children, families, and duck-lovers on Boston Common was 2019, and it was a bit rainy.  Duckling Day Boston, the beloved 30+ year tradition that celebrates the children’s classic book Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey, is finally back in person, and we couldn't be more thrilled.

Now, we can enjoy this adorable event for the Friends of the Public Garden in Boston, Massachusetts in person this year after the pandemic halted this celebration of cuteness.

Make way for magicians, jugglers, and lots of ducklings on Mother’s Day, 2022 this Sunday, May 8.   As always, it starts with the two hour Playtime on the Common, followed by the parade.

It truly is the most delightful image, as hundreds of children parade through Boston’s most picturesque parks dressed like characters from the story.

10am is when Playtime on the Common begins, filled with games and activities, face painting, and a giant duck mingling through the Common while a magician amazes us all and a juggler impresses with his skills.  There's also a reading station, and goody bags for the kids.

As is Duckling Day Boston tradition, the Harvard University Marching Band will lead the parade starting at noon in the Boston Common and ending in the Public Garden near the famous Make Way for Ducklings sculptures.

This creative fundraising tradition benefits the beloved nonprofit Friends of the Public Garden.
