The Music Hall Names New President & CEO to Lead Its Next Chapter

One of New Hampshire's most iconic arts venues is getting a new leader.

Accorning to their website, The Music Hall has announced that Markus Gottschlich will become its next President & CEO, officially stepping into the role on September 1.

If you have been around the area for a while, when you think about Portsmouth, it's hard not to think about The Music Hall.

Whether you've been there for a concert, a comedy show, a movie, or one of the many community events throughout the year, it's one of those places that just feels like part of the Seacoast.

Who is Markus Gottschlich?

Markus brings more than 15 years of experience leading arts and nonprofit organizations across the United States and Europe. He's also an internationally recognized pianist and Steinway Artist, which gives him a unique perspective as both an executive and a performer.

Most recently, he served as Executive Director of the Warehouse Arts District Association in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he helped guide the organization through some incredibly challenging years, including major funding cuts and multiple hurricanes. Under his leadership, the district earned national recognition as one of USA Today's Top Three Arts Districts in the country.

The Music Hall says Markus was chosen because of his combination of strategic leadership, financial experience, and passion for building strong community connections through the arts.

If you've ever attended one of the Hall's signature events, from concerts and comedy shows to the Telluride by the Sea Film Festival or Writers on a New England Stage, you know the organization plays a much bigger role than simply putting people in seats. It's become one of the cultural anchors of downtown Portsmouth and a destination for visitors from across New England.

The Board of Trustees also took time to thank Joe Gleason, who has served as Acting President & CEO during the transition, helping guide the organization while the search was underway.

It will be interesting to see what the next chapter looks like for one of Portsmouth's most treasured institutions.

If there's one thing that's certain, The Music Hall has been bringing people together for generations, and that tradition isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
