Trump center of attention last night
A combative Donald Trump quickly became the center of attention at last night's Republican candidate debate. When one of the moderators asked the 10 candidates if any among them would refuse to pledge to back the party's ultimate nominee, Trump raised his hand. In the nationally broadcast face-off, Trump proclaimed, "I will not make the pledge at this time." He also refused to rule out a third-party run for the White House.
Tent collapse raises question of permit, inspection laws
Regulations vary widely among states on how outdoor entertainment venues like circus tents get their permits and are inspected. In Lancaster, where a circus tent blew down in a severe storm and killed two people this week, the circus operator failed to get the necessary permit that would have spurred an inspection.
Senate OKs Lobster Day resolution pushed by Maine senators
The U.S. Senate has approved a resolution introduced by Maine Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King granting the lobster a national day of celebration. The resolution approved this week designates Sept. 25, 2015, as National Lobster Day. King and Collins say National Lobster Day will highlight the significant role that the crustacean plays in the economies of coastal communities in Maine and across the country.
