South Carolina House considers Confederate flag
The Confederate flag that flies at the South Carolina Statehouse may be making its last stand. The state Senate yesterday passed a bill to take the flag down, and the House takes up the measure today. If members approve the bill, Gov. Nikki Haley could sign it into law before the end of the week and the flag would be removed and taken to the Confederate Relic Room. However, some Republicans lawmakers are planning to offer amendments that could slow the process.
Authorities investigate apparent murder-suicide in Exeter
A man and a woman have been found dead in an apparent murder-suicide in Exeter.
Police say they responded to a home on Tuesday for a welfare check and found the couple dead from apparent gunshot wounds. They were later identified as 43-year-old Jennifer Noll and 49-year-old Richard Sanderson. Autopsies are scheduled for today.
Man dies eight days after his car struck and killed a pedestrian
State police say a Newmarket man has died eight days after his car struck and killed a 79-year-old pedestrian. Police say they believe 44-year-old Peter Wallace was behind the wheel of a car that struck Charles Dearborn on June 25th. Dearborn was pronounced dead at the scene. Right after the crash, police responded to a medical emergency at Wallace's home where they found him unconscious on his front lawn. Wallace died at a hospital on Friday.
