Independent Cinema Takes Center Stage At New Hampshire Film Festival This Weekend
To me, indie filmmaking is about having the courage to tell stories that deserve to be heard. As an actor, it allows me to explore the truth and vulnerability of a character. As a storyteller, it gives me the freedom to create something meaningful, even when resources are limited.
And as a woman in this industry, it means being fearless, trusting your voice and helping create opportunities for stories that might otherwise go untold.
Indie filmmaking reminds me that you don’t need a big budget to make a big impact. You just need heart, passion and the courage to begin.

That’s one of the reasons being asked to join the team for even one night of the New Hampshire Film Festival was such an exciting opportunity for me. It was an instant yes.

I have always felt that storytelling, whether it’s on a stage, behind a camera or in front of one, has a special kind of magic to it. Getting to experience that magic right here in New Hampshire made the night even more special.
Not to mention, NHFF is an official Academy Award-qualifying film fest. You never know who you may run into...
In its 24th year, it was a huge honor to share the stage with co-founder Dan Hannon and introduce Rose, a historical drama (side note: it was completely in German). I have always loved how independent film celebrates all walks of life and gives audiences the opportunity to experience stories and perspectives they may not otherwise encounter.
And the experience started long before I ever stepped onto the stage.

From the moment I stepped inside the historic Music Hall, I was greeted by the most lovely NHFF volunteers. There was also a group of individuals taking photos on the step-and-repeat, shouting, “Yas! Now we’re talking!” LOL They were a true hype team!
Walking through the festival and being surrounded by filmmakers, actors, storytellers and people who simply love the art of film reminded me exactly why I fell in love with storytelling in the first place.
Of course, I couldn’t end the night without a little bubbly. I finished the evening with a glass of champagne in the VIP Members-only lounge, which was covered in navy printed wallpaper and had the most elegant vibes.
It was one of those nights that reminded me how lucky I am to be surrounded by people who are brave enough to tell stories, create art and put themselves out there.
Night one was everything! And I cannot wait for night two...
