Indulge in Chocolate and Memories at Laconia, New Hampshire’s Iconic Candy Shop
Think of your favorite candy from childhood. Maybe it was candy cigarettes or root beer barrels. More of a chocolate lover? Then you probably remember mallow cups.
Mine were always Cow Tales and Dots.
These iconic (yet sometimes hard-to-find) treats can all be found in Laconia, New Hampshire, at the vintage candy shop Kellerhaus.
Kellerhaus in Laconia, New Hampshire, Has Chocolate, Candy, and Ice Cream
Kellerhaus has been producing chocolates since the early 1900s, according to its website, and everything is still made in-house. That dedication to tradition is exactly what keeps people coming back year after year.
For those who visit the Lakes Region every summer (like me), Kellerhaus is a must-stop on the itinerary. Not only can you track down nostalgic candy, but they also serve homemade ice cream.
Every summer, my family and I would go to Kellerhaus on a Friday night and have sundaes for dinner. It’s a tradition that started when I was just 4 years old, and one I now share with my own daughter.
One of the most unique parts of Kellerhaus is their buffet-style toppings bar, where you can build your sundae exactly the way you want it.
The Best Thing About Kellerhaus in Laconia, New Hampshire
And the best part? Sitting on Kellerhaus' old-school metal chairs, eating your ice cream while overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee.
Before you leave, don’t forget to sign the chalk wall with a message for the next visitors. And just when you think you’ve experienced it all, you can wander through the gift shop, filled with vintage games like Mancala and glass trinkets that feel like little pieces of nostalgia you can take home.
