Rats in New Hampshire Could be a Serious Problem

What is this all about?

I don't know much about rats. I always thought we were "fortunate" here that we had a few mice in our New Hampshire home from time to time, but RATS? That's a whole different ballgame.

I am a member of The Raymond NH Area Squawks Facebook page where I saw a post that had a picture of a RAT on someone's porch. Worse yet, someone asked where exactly in Raymond was the rat and it turns out, it is one street over from where I live.

According to Orkin, Rats can carry diseases that are harmful to humans and could cause serious damage to the liver and kidneys. You can also get sick by just inhaling the poo from a rat, so, if you are thinking you're in the clear because you didn't touch them, think again.

The comments on the Facebook page are even more unsettling.

Epping/Raymond has had a brutal rat issue the last decade or so.
Unfortunately their primary natural predators are killed off in droves by secondary rodenticide poisoning which has just made things worse in the long run.

The construction of the housing development on the 102 definitely has something to do with the influx of rats recently....

If You Have a Rat in New Hampshire, Please Do Not Poison It

Several people on the Facebook page said not to use poison to get rid of the rat(s). If you have outdoor pets and they try to eat/play with them, your pet could get seriously ill or even die.

In doing my rat research, I found this National Geographic video of how rats can get inside of your toilet. Hey man, I warned you.

Let me know if you've seen rats on your property and what to do to get rid of them. You never know when they are going to get sick of the neighbors house. EWWWW!!!
