New Hampshire's Only Venomous Snake And Why It's Endangered

Snakes are not my thing. Neither are salamanders. I do have a thing for frogs. Maybe it's because when I was a kid exploring the woods, frogs were the only things that I could catch. I would look at them for a long time before I thought it best to let them go. I never wanted to hurt them.

As a native of New Hampshire, I never knew there were so many types of snakes, turtles and salamanders here, but check out all the different types, according to NH Fish and Game below.

New Hampshire is Home to Many Different Species of Snake

When you scroll through this, you will find that New Hampshire has many different types of snakes, but only one is dangerous to humans; the Timber Rattlesnake. They are currently endangered, so if you see one in the Granite State, you must leave it be.

Did you know there are 7 types of turtles in NH?

Who knew there were more turtles in NH than just the occassional one that you might see trying to cross the road? By the way, if that happens and you want to help the poor thing before it gets smooshed, bring the turtle to the side of the road that they are headed toward. Do not bring it back from where it came from, it will only try to cross the street again.

Frogs are everywhere in New Hampshire. When I was a kid, I had a little body of water in my backyard. I would go exploring and occassionally come across Mama frogs and their froggie eggs. They looked gross and slimy, but kind of cool at the same time.

Cool factoid about frogs: They can't jump backwards. They can only travel from side to side or forward. That's a good lesson for humans to learn too, don't you think?
