Every time I think I've found all the great restaurants in Portsmouth, somebody tells me about another one I need to check out. Now there's a new spot getting ready to join that list.

A new restaurant called Char is coming to Portsmouth, and if you're a steak lover like me, this one might be worth keeping an eye on.

As of now, there is an opening date of September 1, 2026, pending all the stuff that comes with construction and all the things

One of my favorite things about being new to New Hampshire is discovering places that locals have known and loved for years and places that will be new to everyone.

From what has been shared so far, Char will focus on classic steakhouse favorites while also putting Julie's own creative spin on the menu. Early previews suggest guests can expect quality cuts of beef, fresh seafood, handcrafted cocktails, and plenty of dishes designed to make it a destination dining experience.

The restaurant is being opened by local chef Julie Cutting, who many Seacoast foodies already know from Cure in downtown Portsmouth. After nearly 14 years of building a loyal following at Cure, she's now bringing a new concept to the city centered around premium steaks, elevated dining, and a warm atmosphere.

As someone who has spent the last few months exploring Portsmouth one meal at a time, I'm excited anytime a local chef takes a chance on something new.

Portsmouth already has an incredible food scene, and Char looks like it could become another must-visit stop for date nights, celebrations, or simply treating yourself to a really good steak.

I'll definitely be checking it out once the doors open.
