NH Fish and Game Wish Us A Happy World Turtle Day
Happy World Turtle Day! Turtles are one of the most underrated pets, in my opinion! Steven and I have had our Red-eared slider for 8 years! We were at that stage in our relationship where we felt ready to get a pet we would share. We felt like a cat or dog might require more effort than we were willing to give, so we somehow landed on a turtle. After a few short clicks on turtleshack.com, our little Schlomo was shipped to us in a Tupperware container. When he arrived he was about the size of a quarter. And now he is a monster that has almost outgrown his 80-gallon tank. Little did we know this species can live to the ripe old age of 60. We didn't really know what we were signing up for, but we are happy to have this handsome reptile along for the journey. Who knows? Maybe we will hand him down to our grandchildren.
NH Fish and Game is doing their part to protect endangered turtle populations in our fair state. The species of concern are Blanding’s, wood, spotted, and eastern box turtles. They ensure that the habitat is fit for nesting! Check out their site learn more about what the Nongame and Endangered Wildlife Program does for turtles and how you can help
