The 66-year-old woman is facing animal cruelty charges in what police are calling an "unconscionable" act.

According to WMUR News 9, police in Merrimack are investigating an incident involving an 11-year-old golden retriever named "Bailey."

Nancy Bucciarelli allegedly pushed the dog into Naticook Lake from a dock at Wasserman Park. Despite reports of bystanders attempting to help, nothing was able to be done in saving Bailey. The dog was reportedly winded after walking around. Then, Bucciarelli stood on the dock and did not attempt to assist after pushing her off, according to reports.

Merrimack Police Chief Denise Roy told WMUR News 9, "The witnesses actually are the ones who jumped into the water to find the dog under the water and pull the dog out. They made every attempt to revive the dog, but unfortunately the dog did die."

"It is a sad story. It's unconscionable to think what this defendant is charged with," she told WMUR>

Bucciarelli was arrested, and is facing a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge. She was released on personal recognizance and is set to appear in court later this month.
