The New Hampshire State Police are feeling the loss of a beloved friend, and crucial part of their troop.

Earlier this week, the New Hampshire State Police reported that K-9 Ike passed away suddenly on Monday. According to WMUR News 9, Ike first joined the group nine years ago, and was an essential component to fighting crime. Ike was involved in countless deployments around the Granite State.

Per the New Hampshire State Police's Twitter account, Ike started his service in March of 2010. The Belgian Malinois was assigned to Sergeant Michael Cedrone, who is part of Troop B based in Bedford. Together, they trained nearly a half a year before being certified as both a Patrol and Narcotics Detection Team.

While Sgt. Cedrone did not offer an personal statement on Ike, the Twitter page stated "Rest easy K9 Ike, your fellow teammates will take it from here."

Ike was 11 years old.
