If you're looking for a last-minute Valentine's Day idea, don’t overthink it. I've put together a list of ideas for you.

That sounds like a New Hampshire mission statement for Valentine’s Day.

To be honest, I’m learning that around here, romance looks like a nice warm fire and a drink in your hand instead of a reservation time on your phone.

Cozy fireplaces at inns, cabins or at home

If it were me, I’d settle for a small inn or cabin with a real fireplace that automatically does half the work. Put on a flannel, open a bottle of red wine, preferably something local from Seven Birches Winery. Let the snow falling be the ambiance.

Now, if you prefer to wander, places like North Conway or Jackson feel like snow globe towns in February.

Think quiet, charming, and built for slow walks and ducking into warm spots like Ledges at the White Mountain Hotel when your nose gets cold.

Drinks instead of dinner reservations

If you are thinking cozy city vibes, Portsmouth is perfect for that.

Skip dinner, grab a couple of cocktails, a shared plate or two, with nowhere you have to be next. That’s a win in my book.

Daytime counts, too. A winter walk around Lake Winnipesaukee, a scenic drive down the Coastal Byway from Portsmouth to Seabrook, or the historic New Castle loop. Maybe even stop in for coffee at some little coffee place where you don’t feel rushed.

Just writing this, I’m getting peak New Hampshire romance feels.

Honestly, the best move might just be to stay put. Stay in, cook something together, light a candle or two, and put some music on. Sit by the fire and talk about everything and nothing. Sometimes we overhype or overcomplicate things for Valentine’s Day.

It’s not about doing the most. Be present, stay warm, and choose cozy over fancy every single time.
