This isn't something you hear about every day.  A town is effectively shut down because of too many vacancies in the town hall, all because one employee quit after a vacation request dispute, according to Wonkette.

Let's go to a little town called Passadumkeag in Maine, about 40 miles north of Bangor, literally sitting on the banks of the beautiful Penobscot River.

Since April 21, Passadumkeag has been without a town clerk, code enforcement officer, assessor, and animal control officer.

According to US News and World Report, a town employee named Christen Bouchard resigned last month.  She was the town clerk for Passadumkeag, which has a population of around 350 residents.  As so many of us have experienced ourselves, Christen was wearing several hats.  This often happens when there's a search to fill said positions or because of budget cuts.

Besides being the town clerk, Christen was also serving as deputy treasurer and was in charge of licensing pets, registering vehicles, and maintaining vital records.

According to Wonkette, the Board of Selectman told Christen they couldn't approve her two-week vacation request because there was no one to cover her various jobs while she was gone.  To top it off, Christen was only contracted to work 16 hours a week, even though she often worked more.

According to Wonkette, first selectman Brad McKechnie doesn't know anything about a vacation request.

We have been left with a mess from years of neglect and are doing as much as we can to get our town back in order.  I do believe in time with the team we have, we will get Passadumkeag back in order and looking good, but it will take a bit and is going to be a challenge for sure.

The town is advertising for all of the above positions.
