I never imagined myself a writer, but here we are.  If you've ever felt like me, or if you do consider yourself having a passion for literary expression, I have some news for you.

The Dover, New Hampshire, Arts Commission has added a new position to its ranks, that of a Literary Laureate.

What does a literary laureate do?  Here's the description straight from the press release from the Dover Arts Commission.

The Dover Literary Laureate is tasked with broadening community involvement in all forms of literary expression by developing and executing projects funded by the Dover Arts Commission.

If you love creating workshops, performances, exhibits, and writing programs, this could be a good fit for you.

Writing programs could be after school for children or in the evenings for adults, but you would have the latitude to create ideas to advance all types of literary expression within the Dover community.

Poetry readings are another avenue of reflection, as well as other creative processes which engage the community via literary arts.  Literacy in general benefits the entire community, so if you are enthusiastic about creating ways for more literary opportunities for the Dover community, then you should apply.

This is a two-year term, with the application period closing on March 15, 2023.  The successful candidate will embark on this term from July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2025.

Oh, one other point is that the Dover City Literary Laureate must be a resident or work in the City of Dover.

You can find the application form and complete details here, or visit the Dover Arts Commission website.
