Patriots Release QB Cam Newton in Shocking Move
According to NFL Insider Adam Schefter and several other sources, the New England Patriots have just released QB Cam Newton. Unbelievable.
After starting in all three of their preseason wins, this move comes as a shock to the entire sports world.
But, not necessarily for Patriots fans.
We are quite familiar with the mysterious ways of Coach Belichick.
From the moment he resigned 'As HC of The NYJ' back in January of 2000, to the jaw dropping announcement this morning, he can be just as unpredictable as he is formidable.
In times like these, the fog is lifted instantaneously and hindsight is not only 20/20 but appears in crystal clear hi-def.
So many Patriots fans were so irate with the Coach because Mac Jones appeared more than ready to take the reins and yet, Belichick also gave the appearance that he was stubbornly going to stick with Cam as the starter.
Appearances are not what they seem!
On a side note, I can't help thinking that the COVID protocol error, that resulted in Cam's 5 day absence, may have been the final straw.
The NFL has a very strict set of rules when it comes to unvaccinated players and the logistical headache of having Cam as a Quarterback with those rules in place? It couldn't have helped his cause AT ALL.
In Newton's absence last week, Mac Jones allegedly put on an absolute clinic for three hours in the blazing heat, torching the New York Giants in their joint practice.
Tom Brady always says that in the NFL you have to make the most out of every opportunity.
It sounds like his heir-apparent has done just that.
