Two Maine towns received very high praise from a popular website in regard to the winter season.

Congratulations to both for making Stacker's list of 50 Cozy Towns to Visit This Winter. The list was put together from reviews, ratings from national travel sites, close attractions, available activities, and more. You can read more about the methodology in the post.

Both of Maine's towns made the list for completely different reasons, which makes the selections even more unique.

Take a look to see which ones were named the coziest towns to visit in the winter. Can you guess?

That's right, Kennebunk and Bangor landed spots on this list. Did you guess it?

The selection of Southern Maine's beautiful seaside town of Kennebunk is not a surprise. The town is no stranger to national recognition, especially with its amazing downtown district right on the water.

Here is what Stacker had to say about Kennebunk's selection.

If you've ever yearned for a New England Christmas by the sea, Kennebunk is your place. This tranquil Maine town has plenty of charms in the winter.

Kennebunk, along with its neighbor Kennebunkport, are absolute musts to visit during the holiday season. The area truly gets into the holiday spirit, with a wonderful Maine flare.

Bangor may be a little more surprising to see on the list. If you are questioning the selection, you won't after the reasons given.

Despite the harsh weather, Maine doesn't spend winter in hibernation. Bangor's performance venues—the Penobscot Theatre, Cross Insurance Center, Collins Center for the Arts, and the Gracie Theatre—offer theater and concerts throughout the season. And if you want some fresh air, lace up—many of the town's outdoor parks are turned into ice-skating rinks.

That's a hell of a write-up from the site. It also means Bangor has gotten quite the reviews and ratings from various travel sites and tourists. And they aren't lying. Bangor is a hidden gem. The art scene is as strong as Stacker says. And who doesn't love an outdoor ice rink?

Kennebunk and Bangor are not the only New England towns to make the cut. The two are joined by:

Newport, RI
Stowe, VT
Lenox, MA
Montpelier, VT
Woodstock, VT
North Conway, NH

In the least shocking news ever, no Connecticut town made the list.
