Harken back to the days of old as the Sail Portsmouth Festival is starting August 1.

The majestic tall ships will be in town through August 11, and this year will feature the Coast Guard cutter Eagle, and schooners The Lynx, The Roseway and The Harvey Gamage, according to seacoastonline.com.

The news site reported that the parade of ships will begin at the mouth of the Piscataqua River on August 1, and the Parade of Sail will start with the ships in full sail at about 6:30 p.m.

The best viewing spot where be below Memorial Bridge but really anywhere along the banks of the Piscataqua River on either side will provide great viewing, according to seacoastonline.com, and Kittery shoreline has had more open spaces to view in the past than the Portsmouth side.

If you are interested in taking a tour and stepping back in time, hop aboard The Eagle.

According to seacoastonline.com, tours will be held on August 2 and August 4.

The Piscataqua Maritime Commission will have a tent set up with interactive exhibits to help those interested in maritime history fully immerse themselves back in time to the wonder of these amazing ships and what it must have been like back when these schooners roamed the seas.
