It was back in 1988. Our then General Manager, Marty Lessard received a letter from a man who would go on to become the 41st President of the United States.

The letter, which is dated, October 19, 1988 has been affixed to a wall in our radio station ever since we received it thirty years ago. It's quite special to have a letter from someone who would go on to become our Commander-in-Chief.

George H.W. Bush was President of the United States from January 20,1989 - January 20, 1993.

As you know, the Bush family compound at Walker's Point in Kennebunkport, Maine, was always a place where the entire family could spend summers overlooking the Atlantic Ocean or take a stroll downtown and just be one of the regular folks, mingling with the crowds of people or going shopping in the quaint small businesses that line the downtown streets.

As you can read from the letter he sent to our station, he, like many of us, love to get radio station swag!

Former President George H.W. Bush, who was born in Milton, Massachusetts on June 12, 1924, passed away, Friday, November 30, 2018 in Houston at the age of 94. Rest in peace from all of us here at WOKQ.

In case you can't quite make out the letter it reads:

Dear Mr. Lessard:

Thank you very much for sending me the great box of WOKQ memorabilia and for your kind letter as well.

Needless to say, I'm looking forward to getting back up to Kennebunkport and tuning in to WOKQ, and I hope that at some point I can stop in to visit the station.

Many thanks and best wishes.

Sincerely,

George Bush
