Row 34 in Portsmouth, NH, Has ‘Gone Fishin’ Until Spring

Even though we aren't in lock down mode anymore, businesses are still struggling to keep their heads above water. All over New Hampshire and beyond we are seeing restaurants that used to be thriving debate whether it makes sense for them to keep their doors open.

My husband and I love going out for oysters and one of our favorite spots is Row 34. We used to go to the location in Boston when we lived there and were thrilled to be able to support their Portsmouth location when we moved. Row 34 took to their Facebook page yesterday to announce they are taking the next few months off and plan to reopen in the Spring.

According to Row 34's Facebook page, their Boston location and sister restaurant Island Creek Oyster bar will be open on the weekends for takeout.

They are certainly not the only Portsmouth eatery going into hibernation mode due to Covid-19. Jumpin Jays, Moxy, Rudi's, Pocos, Cisco, and Martingale Wharf are also on the list.

I spent some time in downtown Portsmouth over the weekend and the streets seemed pretty busy. Perhaps now that the holidays are behind us restaurants are anticipating less visitors and tourists during the Winter months.

I hate to see all of my favorite local spots struggle so much. Hopefully as the vaccine becomes more readily available businesses will see an uptick and get back to where they were. I know all of us are ITCHING to get out of our houses and to put real pants on. So whenever this pandemic is finally behind us I have a feeling restaurants are going to be just fine. The tough part will be making it to that point.
