Sears Files for Bankruptcy, One NH Store Is Set to Close
Sears Holdings, the parent company of Sears and Kmart announced earlier this week it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will close over 140 stores nationwide. One of those stores is right here in New Hampshire.
It wasn't too long ago, August to be exact that Sears Holdings announced it was closing 46 unprofitable stores. Now, 142 stores will be shuttered by the end of the year.
The Sears location inside the Mall at Fox Run in Newington is on the list of the latest closures. Massive liquidation sales are set to begin within the next two weeks. However, if there's a silver lining to this story, those liquidation sales will mean some drastic price slashing just in time for holiday shopping.
An article in USA Today has the complete listing all 142 Kmart and Sears stores that will be closing by the end of 2018. The company has 687 stores remaining, including Kmart locations.
Sears, which started as a mail order catalog company back in the late 1800's, has been in the news over the last couple of years, with more and more store closing announcements.
