Show Off Your Knitting Skills For Special Olympics Of Maine
Whether it's a hobby, or you are a seasoned pro, Special Olympics is in search of knitters for athletes participating in Maine's Winter Special Olympics.
According to WCSH6.com, over the last half dozen years, volunteers of Maine have knitted hats, gloves, scarfs, and other items for the next game's athletes. The 2019 winter games are scheduled for January 27th through the 29th.
Special Olympics Maine director of public relations Lisa Bird told WCSH 6 one of the biggest highlights of the games are when the athletes receive their donated items. "They're so excited and they're so proud, and they quickly put it on and they wear it all weekend. It just says to them that someone out there is really thinking of you, they're wishing you well, they're supporting you, they care about how you do."
For January, the colors are purple, blue, and green. Knitters can pick the shade and design and are encouraged to be creative with it. Plus, if inspired, they are urged to send a letter along with their garment.
