Boston.com reports on an article from USA Today that its readers have voted, and they like New England; they really, really like New England for Vodka, Rum, and Whiskey.

Move over Ireland, there is a new Whiskey king, and it's right here in Rhode Island.

Sons of Liberty Beer & Spirits Co. in South Kingstown ranked No. 10 on USA Today’s list of best craft whiskey distilleries.

Vermont took home the honor of No. 7 where Smugglers’ Notch Distillery makes the best vodka, according to the list. Those Idaho grains and water from Mount Mansfield make a great vodka it seems. Smuggler’s Notch Distillery also makes an organic gluten-free vodka from corn.

If rum is more your style, head over to Newport, Rhode Island and take a taste of Newport Craft Brewing and Distilling Co. which ranked No. 9, according to the list. Or head up to Vermont and take a few swigs of the maple liqueur distilled from Vermont maple syrup aged in oak from Saxtons River Distillery in Brattleboro, Vermont.

Anyway, you like it, New England has landed as a great destination for craft distilleries.
