South Portland Diner Will Serve Their Final Pancakes After 66 Years in Business
Uncle Andy's has been a staple in South Portland since 1954. According to WMTW, it was purchased by it's current owner Andy Fogg back in the early 2000's. Andy is a professional comedian so comedy was also offered as a side along with bacon and home fries! They are also known for doing special pancakes for the kiddos that come in fun shapes like dinosaurs.
Their Facebook post announcing their closure damn near broke my heart. They were so open and honest with their followers as they would be with family. They didn't try to sugar coat anything, the facts are the facts. In order to stay open they needed to take out a loan and they weren't approved for it. They are absolutely heartbroken to have to make this decision but they weren't left with other options.
Locals who know and love Uncle Andy's shared their condolences and fond memories. Here are some comments on the post:
Ashley Daniels: Thank you so much for all the smiles, and delicious food! I'll miss my favorite build your own omelettes, and the specials that sound so good that I must try! The Shaped Pancakes the kids can't get enough of! So many memories. So much laughter! You will be soooo missed!!!
Zanna Moakley Mangini: This is the saddest news ever, you’ve seen all my kids grow from babies to where they are now. You guys will be so missed, from the silly jokes, fun animal shaped pancakes, and just your kindness from the ❤️
Sarah Rice: Best pancakes I have ever had in my life...im so sorry😔
Chris Dumais Jr. Very sad to hear the news. I always went there while in college. Great memories.
