There’s A Christmas Parade Monday Night in Rochester
A rare event for a Monday, tonight's parade was held over from yesterday.
Yesterday was a either wash out, or a white out. Either way, not exactly perfect weather for celebrating the holidays. Also, it's hard to feel festive if participating in this weather. Like most late fall/winter activities, they are best enjoyed in dry conditions when you're appropriately dressed.
With this in mind, officials in Rochester decided to postpone their annual Christmas parade until tonight. According to Foster's Daily Democrat, festivities will kick off at 5:30. If you're taking part, you're asked to hold off arriving at the school staging area until at least 3:30. This year's parade’s theme is “Christmas Around the World” and will include a variety of floats, bands, local organizations, Santa and more.
Many years ago, the first parade I ever represented a radio station in was the Rochester's. Instead of playing holiday music, we ran the regular programming. At the height of downtown, Nazareth's Hair of the Dog came on, with it's not so family friendly chorus. I was mortified, as it drew many stink eyes from mothers with small children. Talk about a "wanna get away" moment.
