Dave Emerson runs Emerson Aviation and has been declaring 'ice out' for the past 39 years.

According to WMUR, this year's 'ice out' was officially marked at 5:40pm on Thursday, April 26th! The tradition of Emerson's family declaring 'ice out' has been going on for more than 130 years.

'Ice Out' signals the M.S. Mount Washington can travel to all five of her ports, which include Wolfeboro, Meredith, Center Harbor, Alton Bay and Weirs Beach. The M.S. Mount Washington will do a test run next week, then cruising season officially starts on Mother's Day!

Seasonal businesses throughout the Lake Region will now begin to open up for the busy spring and summer tourist season that will descend upon the area.
