Tomato Day is August 31 this year.  It’s a day to celebrate our favorite fruit.

Wait, is it a fruit?

Well, you can find out if it is a fruit and everything else about tomatoes at the York Farmers Market in Maine this Saturday, August 31.

Seacoastonline reports that the Farmer’s Market is held from 9 am to 1 pm each Saturday through Columbus Day weekend at the York Region Chamber of Commerce at 1 Stonewall Lane.

Who will get the trophy for best tomato this year?

According to seacoastonline, last year’s winner was Phil from River Lily Farm who stole the prize from the prior year winner, Bill, owner of Connolly’s Organics.

Get out to the Farmer’s Market and vote for the best tomato.  Check out all the varieties of tomatoes to be had and meet the owners and operators of the farms that supply us our favorite tomatoes, which is a fruit, or a vegetable?

I’m hoping to find out myself. It’s sure to be a good time when the event is sponsored by a vendor with the name “When Pigs Fly.”
