Trompe-l'œil Pastries At Dar Rafikis Look Just Like Real Fruit

If your social media feed has suddenly been flooded with pastries that look suspiciously like pieces of fruit, you’re not alone. Trompe-l’œil pastries are having a major moment, and there’s a Massachusetts bakery where you can try the viral treats for yourself!

Just over the border at Dar Rafiki’s in Haverhill, you can get these incredibly realistic looking fruit treats, but you might need to take a second look before taking a bite.

The French term “trompe-l’œil” roughly translates to “deceive the eye,” which is exactly what these desserts are designed to do. They’re crafted to look like something completely different, in this case, colorful pieces of fruit, while actually being delicate pastries filled with sweet fillings.

Dar Rafiki’s offers dozens of French trompe-l’œil pastries shaped like fruit and filled with mousse and fruit pieces. The bakery’s menu also features a rotating “Cube Croissant,” with the flavor changing daily.

And the flavors are part of what makes these so fun to try. Mango, strawberry and other fruit-inspired creations have been spotted at the bakery, giving you the chance to bite into something that looks like a piece of produce but tastes like a delicious dessert.

The bakery recently shared on their social media, "We are officially named the BONS Best Bakery 2026 of the North Shore!"

Dar Rafiki’s is also much more than just pretty pastries. The Haverhill spot serves Moroccan-inspired food, including chicken shawarma, falafel, kofta and merguez, along with traditional French pastries and coffee.
