What the Heck is This Thing Roaming Around Boston, Massachusetts?
You saw that picture in the headline, right?
What the heck is this thing?
This little...cart...was seen wheeling down streets in Boston.
It looked like a submarine on wheels...but the thing was going as fast as a car...in the middle of the road.
Many commented on the video asking what the heck it was, while others confidently claimed that it was a "velomobile."
What is a Velomobile?
Velomobiles are kind of like a seated bike. They are human-powered vehicles, with a large outer shell for better aerodynamics, weather protection, and more speed.
And they do get fast. Some of the Velomobile models have electric assist. Mix that with an experienced rider and the Velomobiles can go up to 30 mph
I think they are incredibly neat...do they look super cool?
Nope. They don't, let's be honest. But the perks WAY outweigh the quirky look:
First of all, they are super fast. As fast as a car would be driving around a city or town.
They are way better for the environment. They have the convenience, like parking a bike, but the benefit of being weather-protected.
According to the website, the Velomobile starts at around $7,500 with models running and pricing far more than that.
