There are 57 bluefin tuna fishermen from all over the country out and about off of Boston's North Shore for some deep sea fishing for an incredible cause.  It's the second annual Northeast Bluefin Showdown and yes, tens of thousands of dollars are on the line for the top winners, and everyone is welcome to come watch the weigh-ins and enjoy all of the other activities.

According to the Northeast Bluefin Showdown website, this is its second year, and they've already seen it grow from last year's highly successful inaugural tournament.  It's taking place at the Merri-Mar Yacht Basin in the historic town of Newburyport, where fishermen will bring in their catches each day for a weigh-in.  $85,000 in prizes were given away last year, but there's so much more to this fishing showdown then just winning money.

According to the Northeast Bluefin Showdown, raising funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Jimmy Fund in the area of pediatric oncology is the reasoning behind this tournament.  The donations from the auctions, raffle tickets , and sponsors are raising those funds to help cancer patients and their families.  Last year, the tournament gave $85,000 in prizes while raising $26,000 for the Dana-Farber and Jimmy Fund.

This years runs through July 15, with so much room for participants and anyone else who wants to come hang out.  This year they've added a kids' day with vendors, games, and food, so click here to get those details plus the rest of the week's schedule.
