This news story is sick, but it is real.

A woman in Vermont was arrested for trying to smuggle 29 turtles across the US border into Canada, according to an ABC News article.

Again, this story is pretty sick.

But now that she was caught, arrested, and found guilty, we can laugh at how she was trying to make it happen... on an inflatable kayak.

Wan Yee Ng was staying in her Airbnb in Canaan, VT, when she was arrested, according to ABC News. She was prepping her inflatable kayak to cross Lake Wallace into Canada, but authorities caught her first.

Inside a duffle bag, prepped to go on her voyage into Canada, were 29 Eastern Box Turtles, according to the news station.

ABC News reported that, apparently, on the Chinese black market, the turtles are worth $1,000 apiece.

Do they eat the turtles? I mean turtle soup is a thing...but a quick Google search only listed Eastern Turles as pets. So are these just really expensive pets?

Who knows why they are worth so much... It does not really matter because the whole story is so MESSED up. This woman should be in jail for a long time.

The woman's sentencing, according to ABC News, will be in December when she faces up to 10 years in prison.
