Spooky season is right around the corner, and the capital of spooky season, Salem, Massachusetts, is home to one of the creepiest records of all time.

The world's largest Ouija board was built in Salem, MA in 2019.

If you are trying to pronounce 'Ouija' or have no clue what it is, you missed out on some real horror in your youth...but I will explain briefly.

Ouija was a board game in which everyone participating would place their fingers on a centerpiece. After asking the board a question, "magically" the centerpiece would move to answer the question: either spelling out the answer, moving to the "yes" or "no," and even giving you numbers as to how many years you have left to live.

The thought was that the board was a way to connect to the afterlife - and the answers were coming from a spirit wherever you were playing the game.

As a child, these things haunted me.

Just a few years ago, in 2019, the world's largest Ouija board was built on Salem Common, in Salem, MA.

According to a Mass.Live article, the board was constructed on 99 sheets of plywood and weighed over 9,000 pounds - an enormous "board" game.

It was so big and in the most haunted town in the US, that Ripley's Believe it or Not! picked it up and did a feature on it.

The board in Salem, MA was about three times bigger than the previous record holder in Pennsylvania.

Will Salem be displaying the world's largest Ouija board again this fall? I think they should!
