Would You Use a Dating Website that Didn’t Allow Profile Pics?
The first online dating site debuted twenty years ago but none have ever asked their users to not use pictures. Emily Mui of Canada wants to change that with a dating service called Quitlooking.
In the age of instagram and selfie sticks, it may seem counter-intuitive that a dating website is opting to go without photos but the explanation actually makes perfect sense. Not so much because of the claim about "stand[ing] up against our appearance obsessed society" as, honestly, appearances do matter when pairing up.
The sensible part is about offering a service "for people such as police officers, politicians, teachers, social workers, doctors- people who don't want their face plastered all over dating sites." This. This is the part that makes perfect sense.
It may not be for those looking for a quick hook up by swiping right, but it certainly seems like a de cent option for those seeking some privacy (although the worry would be that the privacy turns it into a site for cheaters to play the field-- am I being too cynical?)
