For many folks looking to add a four-legged bestie to their family, they go down the puppy or kitten road. Trust me, I see the appeal! First of all, baby animals are precious. Ain't no if, ands, or buts about it. Also, there is something reassuring for people to know that the animal has a limited history. No negligent owner has had time to mess them up or make them feel unloved. They are a clean slate.

But there are far too many animals in this country (especially down south) without a loving home, which is why adopting over shopping is the more noble choice.

There are tons of shelters in New Hampshire and Maine that help sweet animals find loving fur-ever homes.

The decision to adopt an animal is not one that should be taken lightly! There's a lot of things to keep in mind before you commit to being a pet parent. Though they are not as needy as human children, pets cost money and take up time! It's important to not be impulsive.

If you are in a stage of life where adding a new fur baby to your family is feasible, Kennebec Valley Humane Society has a certified good boy just waiting to move in with you.

Aries has been on their adoption floor longer than all the other dogs at their facility (almost 100 days!). They are really surprised he hasn't been scooped up yet. He's sweet, intelligent, loyal, and just feast your eyes on that beard!

He's a two-year-old black and white retriever who has nothing but love to give! I would be shocked if a family doesn't scoop him up soon, because when the shelter posted a photo of Aries on Facebook, it just about broke the internet! It was shared over 500 times.
If you or anyone you know is interested in a cute, new, bearded roommate, I would act fast!
