Movie theater shooting
A loud pop, like a fire cracker, then five more -- that's how one witness described last night's shooting at a Louisiana movie theater that left three dead and nine wounded. Stories of heroism immediately began to emerge. Presidential hopeful Gov. Bobby Jindal traveled to the scene within hours of the shooting, telling reporters that a teacher who was in the theater jumped in front of a second teacher, saving her life. He said the second teacher then managed to pull a fire alarm to alert other moviegoers.

Local police chief fired
Selectmen in New Durham have fired the town's longtime police chief. One selectman told reporters, Chief Shawn Bernier wanted to retire and yesterday's decision means he'll get severance pay. Bernier says he only wanted to drop to part-time and he plans to sue the town for wrongful termination.

Woman hurt in ATV accident
A woman has suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries after her 12-year-old son lost control of their ATV as they descended a steep trail in Pittsburg. Fish and Game conservation officers said the vehicle went off the edge of the trail on Thursday afternoon, causing it to roll over. It happened on a connector trail that connects Perry Brook Trail to Indian Stream Road.
