Dan + Shay Win Best Country Duo/Group Performance at 2019 Grammy Awards
Dan + Shay's hit "Tequila" has won the award for Best Country Duo / Group Performance at the 2019 Grammys. The trophy was awarded during the pre-telecast Premiere Ceremony on Sunday night (Feb. 10). This is the first Grammy Awards nomination and win for the talented duo.
Both Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney seemed genuinely shocked to win over Florida Florida Georgia Line and Bebe Rexha's record-breaking hit "Meant to Be," Maren Morris and Vince Gill's socially aware "Dear Hate," award show regulars Little Big Town's "When Someone Stops Loving You" and Brothers Osborne's equally deserving "Shoot Me Straight."
"Are you kidding me right now?," said Smyers. "My heart is beating out of my chest. We had no expectation to win this."
Mooney sounded equally shocked, saying, "I'm a little blown away, and I might be about to pass out."
Despite the duo's disbelief, it should be no surprise they won a Gammy for their shared awards shelf. The award recognizes one of the catchiest and best-written crossover hits on country radio. It also culminates several years of consistent hits for the duo, dating back to the 2013 single "19 You + Me."
