For the first time in over 20 years a new Dr. Seuss book has been published.

"What Pet Should I Get ??"  was written sometime between 1958 and 1962 by Theodore Geisel better known to the world as children's author Dr. Seuss. It seems that the good doctor's widow found the manuscript while cleaning his office up after his death in 1991. It remained a secret until 2013 when publishing agreements were signed and now a new generation gets to enjoy a "new" instant classic.

We all read "One Fish,Two Fish.." at some point and the story in his new book is familiar in tone.  The New York Times book review says it best.

"Filled with creatures both real and zany,
It shows off his gift for creating a zoo.
Two-legged, four-legged, winged and finned,
Beasties familiar and entirely new!"

I am for anything that encourages children to read and more importantly use their imaginations.  Dr. Seuss books were always a safe way to accomplish both goals.  Now I have a perfect gift to give my grandchildren.

And as far as "What Pet Should I Get??" for real, not the book don't forget our friends at the Cocheco Valley Humane Society and check out the pets they are trying to find good homes for adoption.
