With summer starting to wind down, many of us are scrambling to get in as many cookouts as possible, but an investigation by Consumer Reports discovered disturbing levels of bacteria in hundreds of pounds of ground beef from across the nation.

The 'Today Show' did a segment earlier this week about the Consumer Reports claim that you could be putting your family and yourself at risk by eating ground beef.

The report gives a few suggestions to help you safely prepare and cook your beef.

1. Cook all ground beef to at least 160 degrees

2. Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly after kneading raw ground beef to make burgers or meatloaf.

3. Choose "grass-fed organic beef" whenever you can.
