Barrington, NH Father, Son Hit Tree While Riding OHRV

A father was injured Friday night riding with his son when their off-highway recreational vehicle hit a tree in Barrington.

NH Fish and Game Law Enforcement Division and Operation Game Thief said Jack Rigal, 37, and his son were riding on Brooks Road and hit the tree as they were turning off the road and into the woods. An investigation determined they were traveling at a high rate of speed.

Rigal was taken via ambulance to Frisbie Hospital in Rochester for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Neither Rigal or his son were wearing helmets, according to Fish & Game.

Rigal faces violations of operating an OHRV on a public way and having a minor passenger without a helmet, all violations that can carry fines of up to $1,000 each.

New Hampshire law requires any OHRV rider under 18 to wear helmet and eye protection. Operators over the age of 18 must wear eye protection unless the OHRV is equipped with a windshield or screen that protects the driver’s eyes and face. Fish & Game did not disclose the age of the son except that is is under 18.

"Fish and Game Conservation Officers would like to remind everyone to operate in accordance to the rules and regulations of the state and always wear safety equipment while operating an OHRV," Fish & Game said in their statement about the incident.
