Boston’s SOWA Christmas Festival Creates Joy for the Season

There was a fast moving line to get in on a cold, crisp, cloudy day in December, but once inside any shiver melted away as the glitter and glow of thousands of shimmering light made it feel like the sun was on your face.

Once inside the SOWA Power Station on Harrison Avenue in Boston, you felt the bliss of the season, as many strolled with wine or coffee, looking at each booth and picking out gifts for special people.

We had no idea what to expect, because although the SOWA Winter Festival has been going strong for nine years, my friend and I had never been. Imagine walking into curtain of light above you.

Heart Shaped Empanadas

We always love going into the city, especially at Christmas time, but had no expectations.  If you are looking for an indoor event that makes your feel like you are outdoors, perusing through the 100+ vendors with unique wares, try this festival.

You can go there hungry, as there are food vendors, like Eataly, Matilda's Heart-Shaped Empanada's, DaVinci Chocolatier, to name a few, and outdoor food trucks as well.

Food, Fun, and Drinks for All

Before you head up to the lounge on the second floor, with comfortable sofas, live entertainment and cocktails, you can grab a drink a the larger bar downstairs near the back wall.

There are coffee vendors on site and bakeries, so you can get those cravings satisfied.

Each vendor must apply, and be deemed worthy.  The organizers keep a careful watch on the quality and uniqueness of each vendor.  I found wool felt christmas balls embroidered with flowers and wisteria.  It was very unique.

Whatever you are looking for, they likely have a booth for that, and for only $10 admission, it's the best deal in town.  Did I mention parking is only $10 too.  Yes, Boston parking for $10.  What a deal, and it will help you to get into that holiday spirit.
