Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire Needs to Host a ‘Chilly Open’ Golf Tournament on Ice
A small town in Minnesota hosts a golf tournament yearly that I think New Hampshire needs to adopt.
What is so special about it?
It's on ice.
What is the Chilly Open?
The Chilly Open is a golf tournament on ice in Wayzata, MN that has been going on for over 40 years. Thousands of the town's residents flock onto the ice to enjoy a round of golf every February when the weather is -5 and windy.
This year, according to the Chilly Open website, there will be four, 9-hole courses on the lake.
The "golf" is the least interesting part about this day - but it is also the core.
Those who register to play are able to use golf clubs, boat paddles, hockey sticks...anything...to hit he golf ball off the frozen lake. All while dressing up, drinking from open containers, and more.
For more visual learners, check out the video below of the "Chilly Open."
I think a Chilly Open in New Hampshire would thrive on Lake Winnipesaukee.
Every year Lake Winni hosts the pond classic where thousands show up to play ice hockey on New Hampshire's largest frozen lake.
Let's take that concept and mix golf in. New Hampshire residents would show up in the thousands to play golf in the middle of the winter...on a frozen Lake Winnipesaukee.
And that is what winter is all about - doing your fun hobbies despite the cold.
Let's get a Chilly Open golf tournament going on New Hampshire's most beautiful and largest lake this winter.
