Cops Find Driver Who Hit Amesbury, Mass Bicyclist, Mom and Fled
An unlicensed Tewksbury man was arrested and charged in the hit and run death of a woman riding a bicycle in Salisbury Friday night.
Salisbury Police Chief said Deven M. Tanguay, 32, was behind the wheel of a truck-style camper that struck Rebecca Bartczak, 39, of Amesbury as she rode a bicycle on Folly Mill Road. According to a GoFundMe page created to assist her family Bartczak was riding home from work.
The impact of the crash knocked the camper off the truck. Hampton Falls Police found the truck but not the driver about a half hour later in Kensington.
Tanguay was arrested in Woburn on Monday. He was charged with:
- Leaving the scene personal injury collision, death resulting
- Motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation
- Motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation
- Unlicensed operation of motor vehicle
- Marked lanes violation
Her father Michael Bartczak posted on his Facebook page that Rebecca Bartczak had just become a grandmother to her son's new daughter.
"We are a strong family trying to pick up the pieces and Jacob and Ruby will have plenty support from all those who love them dearly," Michael Bartczak said referring to her children.
