A West Newbury home was damaged by a four-alarm fire early Friday morning.

Heavy flames were coming out the back of the one-and-a-half story home as firefighters arrived around 4:20 a.m., according to West Newbury Fire Chief Michael Dwyer. The residents of the home and their pets had already escaped the fire.

The fire went to three alarms to bring in additional crews to help knock out the fire. Approximately 1,200 feet of hose and a half-dozen water tanker trucks were used to extinguish the fire. The home was declared inhabitable.
