Money is tight for so many this year, with the high cost of everything.  Here's a new trend in New England for gift giving, and it's not only money-saving, but also sentimental.

Often our family gives us a list or ideas of items they want for Christmas.

But, what if you purchased something for them that was so unique, they knew instantly you really thought about this gift.

One way is to shop in thrift shops, and oh do we have a lot of them in New Hampshire. It's not just clothing, but household items, accessories, and one of a kind pieces.

I found a bronze letter opener for my husband last year with his initial "B" on it.  It was definitely "antique-y" and something he needed (but didn't know it).  His reaction was "How did you find this with a B on it?".  Yes, it was unique and thoughtful.

Another idea is to look in your own closet or jewelry box.

My friend gifted her daughters each a ring from their grandmother.  Instead of waiting until she passed, she gifted them the jewelry now so they could enjoy it longer.  That's just so smart.

Goodwill suggests thrifting vintage t-shirts.  What's your person's favorite band? Besides, who doesn't love a well worn, soft t-shirt?

Vinyl records are back in a big way, especially for Millenials, and Gen X music fans, and there are great vinyl finds in thrift shops.

Here are some other ideas from Brit.co which are super creative:

  • Use thrifted jars to put homemade jam, spice mixes, or snacks in
  • Use thrifted vessels like mugs, vases, and bowls to pour candles in
  • Thrift and gift a pre-loved jewelry box alongside a new or handcrafted jewelry piece
  • Thrift a velvet garment to cut into strips for handmade bows
  • Thrift cookie tins for all the holiday treats you’ll make (and gift) this season
  • Find some candlestick holders or candelabras, clean them off, then gift them with a few candlesticks
  • Thrift a picture frame and use it to hold a collage, a painting, or a photo that’s special to the recipient
  • If your giftee is a fashionista, scour the thrift store racks for some cool and unique pre-loved garments
  • Use thrifted bottles to put homemade infused liquors in

So get creative, and shop in any of these thrift stores in New Hampshire.
