The older you get, the more you like history and historical landmarks in your home area.

I don't make the rules - it's just what happens when you get older.

Tour of a castle in grade school? NOPE - boring.

Tour of a medieval castle as an adult? YUP - that sounds cool.

Tour it by candlelight? Spooky. And YES AGAIN.

Hammond Castle, Gloucester, Massachusetts:

In the coastal town of Gloucester, MA rests a massive castle with a spooky lure.

According to a Boston Magazine article, the castle was built in the 1920s by John Hammond, a successful inventor with over 800 patents.

The castle includes remarkable features that are far more impressive than the medieval architecture...such as the courtyard's own weather system.

Hammond's courtyard has a 30,000-gallon pool, but more impressive is the ability to make it rain.

Hammond's weather system could bring rain, moonlight, sunlight, fog, and more to the courtyard within seconds - a wildly impressive, and bizarre feature of the castle.

To be clear, this was a series of pipes, lights, and science, but a unique and confusing touch for the castle's visitors.

Hammond Castle Museum:

Doing a tour of the Hammond Castle is a must. They offer self-guided, guided, candle-lit, and spiritual tours.
