Hampton Beach Dealing With Damage Done by Strong Wind Gusts
The strong wind gusts that screamed through our area on Monday afternoon caused some damage along Hampton Beach.
As you can see from some of these photos, the roof of the building that houses businesses such as the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom and many seasonal ocean front stores had some damage caused by strong wind gusts Monday afternoon.
The strong winds are also being blamed for toppling a communications tower and a tractor-trailer crash. The Associated Press reports the communication tower used by U.S. Homeland Security atop Maine's Sugarloaf Mountain came down Monday amid strong gusts. The wind also was blamed for snowdrifts that caused two tractor-trailers to collide Tuesday morning on I-95 near Medway, Maine.
On Monday, there were gusts of 61 mph (98 kph) in Portsmouth and Mount Washington recorded a gust of 171 mph (275 kph), an all-time peak for February.
